4. Technical Subcommittee

West Beyond the West Portal

  • Next steps: code review, incorporate feedback into site improvements – ongoing

Metadata Wrangler

  • Starting to see community content appear in the portal
  • West Vancouver Memorial Library, Salt Spring Island Archives, Campbell River Museum & Archives
  • On the way: Museum of Vancouver, UBCIC

Hosting Service

  • Institutional theming – done
  • Ability to change metadata standards between collections – done
  • CMR export – rather than including a CMR export function, Artefactual is working with Canadiana to ensure their DC export meets the requirements for CMR ingest.  Artefactual has decided not to include a cmr export function within the software as cmr is “not a standard”.  They are working with Canadiana to ensure this can take place.
  • Canadiana will have a special script to convert records from AtoM in DC into CMR. Other AtoM users will be able to use this script as well.
  • BCDC Site should be ready to launch at same time as Interim 2 (June) – will not be a public release, but an interim release. Final release in November 2013. Bulk export will probably not be included until the final release.
  • Artefactual will offer the bulk export to users as a hosted service for the interim period between June and November. Users will still be able to do one offs in the meantime.
  • Read-only test collection will be ready for BCLA.  Mike and Mark J. are working with Artefactual’s team to bulk import a sample collection for BCLA demonstration purposes.
  • AtoM timeline:
    • Read only (Interim1): launching “any day now”
    • Interim 2 will launch before ACA conf. in June (basic add/edit functionality)
    • Full launch – November 2003

5. Communications Update  Coalition presentations have been submitted and accepted to BCLA and the Beyond Hope Conference.  The BCLA presentation will be a panel to include Mike, Simon, Kate and Jillian Povarchook from the Museum of Vancouver.

Simon is engaging UBC Library communications to assist with marketing materials for West Beyond the West portal and hosting services.
